Cycle Training Background

My Cycling Background  & Experience

I began cycling in 1994, firstly mountain biking and then in 1997 took up road cycling.  I was introduced to the Southern Area Mountain Bike Series and won both the Sports and Expert categories.  I have placed in the top 10 in National Championships for mountain bike cross country, road racing and time trials.

I have raced in Holland against the likes of Van Moorsel and her "Farm Frites" team-mates as well as competing at Island Games since 1997 winning numerous medals and competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2002.  I have been crowned the Women's National Hill Climb Champion for three years in succession from 2004 to 2006.  I have also recently embarked on velodrome riding.

As you will see from the above brief outline, the advantage I have is that my experience is wide, from mountain bike to road races, time trialling to becoming National Hill Climb Champion on my first attempt.  This diverse experience helps me understand the individual needs of the riders I coach.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching riders since 2002 and have helped them achieve a range of objectives, including Commonwealth Games qualification, Island Games medals, personal best times, completing endurance events such as the Cape Epic 8 day after only 6 months of cycling training, setting records and massively improving national placings.

To give you an indication of the level of Island Games competition, Mark Cavendish won the criterium race in Guernsey in 2003.
